Guidelines

Each category listed should be a separate page.  For each, you need an illustration of your own making and an explanation in your own words.  You may use use the computer for word processing, or you may use your own best cursive hand writing.  The booklet should have a creative, decorative cover containing the title, and your name.  You will be graded on accuracy, creativity, and neatness.  Some of the pages we work on in class will be added to this booklet.  The report on your famous Ohioan will be added as well.  Please use 81/2 x 11 paper.

1.  State flag - explain the meaning of the colors and symbols used.

2.  State flower - list any other states with the same flower.  If an explanation of why it was chosen is available, include it.  If not, tell why you think it was chosen.

3.  State tree - same info as flower.

4. State seal - tell the significance of the words and symbols.

5.  State bird - same info flower.  Also include information about the bird, such as its size, features, markings, etc.

6. Capital - name, was it always the capital?  In what year was it named the capital?  Give info about this city.

7.  Native animals/Natural resources- you may want to make this a collage.

8.  Points of interest - list, illustrate, and describe at least five (again, this can be one page, or as many as five)

9.  Colleges and Universities - list, illustrate, and describe at least five (again, this can be one to five)

10.  Sports - major professional sports represented in Ohio

11.  State motto

12. State song

13.  State wildflower

14.  State fossil
