Pack 641 is very active. In addition to our monthly Pack Meetings, we have other annual events and activities. They include:
All About Scouts: Our Pack newsletter published four times per year. It includes Cubmaster and Committee Chairman news, event calendar, and articles submitted by each Den Leader that includes news of their Den’s activites.
Recruit Night or Roundup: The first Friday in September is our time to recruit new boys into Cub Scouts. Den Leaders familiar with each rank are asked to attend and speak with new recruits and their parents.
Popcorn Sale: This is our only fundraiser each year. The sale begins in October and is completed in December. All Scouts are expected to sell popcorn to fund our Pack activities. Each Scout receives a portion of their sales and is placed in their own Scout Account. This account may be used for any Scout item or Scout activity.
Winterday: Each January Scouts, accompanied by a parent, spend a day outdoors at Southern Ohio Dog and Game for events and the best chili in town. Events include: hawk & knife, bow & arrow, tug of war, dog sled race, and many other fun activities. Events are scored and highest scores are awarded ribbons.
Scout Sunday: Each February we celebrate the birthday of Scouting by recognizing our Pack at the 8:30 A.M. Mass at St. John’s. Scouts and parents from our Pack are ministers, servers, and lectors for the Mass. Our Scout parents sing in the Scout Choir during Mass. Religious medal recipients are recognized (more information on religious medals can be found in the “Awards” section of this manual). After Mass, our Scout family moves to the cafeteria for our delicious Scout Breakfast.
Outdoor Action Expo: Each May all Scouts from Dan Beard Council meet at Coney Island for food and fun. Our Pack sets up the tic tac toe game for our fellow Scouts to play. Each Den is assigned a shift to “man” the game.
Parish Blood Drive: This is one of our Pack’s annual service projects. Our Scouts assist with blood donor sign-up, distribute snacks, and offer babysitting for the donors’ children. All Scout parents are asked to donate blood for the drive if they are able.
Memorial Day Parade: Our Pack celebrates Duty to Country by annually marching in this parade.
Kelhoffer Garden Cleanup: Another Pack service project is maintaining the Kelhoffer Garden each summer for St. John’s. Scouts can earn the World Conservation Award for this project.
Scout & Mountain Men Rendezvous/June Outing: Each Fathers’ Day weekend is our annual campout at Southern Ohio Dog and Game. The weekend begins on Friday evening for the Scout and a parent with campsite set-up and a meal. Saturday is the event day. Boys participate in activities similar to Winterday and complete the events with the Simon Kenton Run. Events are scored and Mountain Men prizes are awarded. After Mass on Saturday evening is our chicken dinner for the Scouts and their whole family. Saturday night is our campfire. Songs and skits are performed and prizes are awarded. Sunday morning is breakfast, cleanup, and pack-up for home.
Cub Scout Adventure Camp/Cub World: This is Dan Beard Council’s camp for Cub Scouts. Our Pack attends for four days and three nights the last full week in June. Tiger Cubs stay in the Fort, Wolfs in the Castle, Bears in Mountain Man Village, and Webelos in Miner’s Camp. The ability of our Scouts to attend Cub World depends on parent volunteers to stay at camp with the boys.
Whitewater Day Camp: One week day camp offered to Cub Scouts at Miami Whitewater Forest each summer in July.
Festival Chicken Dinner: Each year our Cub Scouts bus tables for the dinner. Each Den is assigned a shift to bus tables. This is another great service project our Pack performs.
