Pack Meetings are the monthly gathering of Cub Scouts and their families for parties, contests, derby races, bowling, or educational activities. Each den will be assigned to plan and implement a monthly Pack meeting (Tiger Cubs will not be assigned a Pack meeting their first year). Pack meetings are held the fourth Friday each month with the exception of December and February. No Pack meetings are held during summer vacation.
Here is a brief description of each Pack meeting:
September (7:30 P.M. St. John’s cafeteria): This is a welcome meeting for new Tiger cubs. There is also a special ceremony to acknowledge the new rank all other Scouts have earned.
October – Halloween Party (7:00 P.M. St. John’s cafeteria): This is our annual Pack Halloween Party. Yes, you are expected to wear a costume and prizes are awarded for the best costumes.
November (7:30 P.M. St. John’s cafeteria): This meeting does not have a scheduled theme. The den assigned for this meeting plans the theme and activities.
December – Christmas Party (6:30 P.M.): The meeting begins with caroling at Beechknoll. We then return to the cafeteria for a Christmas party and gift exchange for the Scouts.
January – Genius Kit or Lad & Dad/Mom & Me Cake Bake (7:30 P.M. St. John’s cafeteria): This Pack meeting has alternate year themes. On even years, the Lad & Dad or Mom & Me cake bake is scheduled. Scouts and parents bake a cake in one of the approved categories (architecture/landmarks, sports, movies/TV, transportation, God & nature, scouting, or patriotic). Trophies are awarded and the cakes are auctioned. On odd years is the Genius Kit. Each den will receive a bag of various items and are given time during the Pack meeting to create something and present it to the Pack.
February – Blue and Gold Banquet (Saturday): Scouts and their families attend 4:30 Mass. After Mass, dinner is served in the Parish Center. After dinner the second year Webelos “bridge” into Boy Scouts in a special ceremony. All other Scouts receive the rank badges they earned. Other awards earned are also presented. Following awards, some type of entertainment is scheduled.
March – Raingutter Regatta or Pinewood Derby (7:00 P.M. Parish Center): This is our annual race Pack meeting. On even years is the Pinewood Derby race. Scouts make their own racecars and compete against their fellow Scouts for trophies. On odd years is the Raingutter Regatta. Boys make their own boats and compete with their fellow Scouts blowing through a straw to move their boats through a rain gutter. Trophies are awarded for the winners.
April (7:30 P.M. St. John’s cafeteria): This Pack meeting is the same as November. There is no scheduled theme for this meeting.
May – Family Bowling (6:30 P.M. Colerain Bowl): This is our annual bowling night for the Scouts and their families.
