What is the PTO?  PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization.

What is the PTO’s mission?  The mission of PTO is to foster a spirit of cooperation and communication among all members of our school community and to help develop a closer relationship between home and school.

Why join the PTO?  Being a member of the PTO easily keeps you in touch with your children’s activities during the school year.  Your PTO membership dues enhance the educational facilities and opportunities for the students that are not otherwise provided for in the school budget.  Because of your membership and involvement we are able to keep valuable programs available, such as Everybody Counts, Field Day, Catholic School Week, School House Symphony, just to name a few.

Who benefits?  Our children!!!  Plus, there are two SCHOLARSHIPS awarded to the 8th grade students, one boy and one girl.  The PTO scholarships are only awarded to children of PTO members.

PTO membership is $10.00 per family.  With your membership you will a receive membership card and a PTO handbook which includes a school directory with the names, addresses, and phone numbers of all the families at St. John’s Unified Area School.

Come and join us as we travel through the new school year together!

PTO Survey – Tuesday December 4th 4-7pm

We need at least 150 participants for a take home chip study on Tuesday, December 4th from 4-7 pm in the school cafeteria.  Participants need to be 18+ years old to qualify.  It only takes 15 minutes to see if you qualify.  You will get the product immediately to take home if you do!  St. John’s PTO will earn $5/qualified-person and $2/non-qualified persons.  More people that participate the better!  If we have at least 150 people come to the screening we will receive and additional $50!  This all adds up and will be a huge benefit!  Come support your PTO!!  Contact Donna Murphy @ 742-3601 if you have any questions.

FREE Parenting Workshop by Dr. Thomas KnestrictThursday January 24, 2008

Your PTO is excited to present a FREE parenting workshop by Dr. Thomas Knestrict entitled “Rules, Rituals and Routines: A Values Based Approach to Managing Behaviors at Home.”  This 1 hour workshop will be held in the school cafeteria on Thursday, January 24, 2008 immediately following our short general membership meeting at 7pm in the Church Daily Chapel.  I was fortunate to hear Dr. Knestrict speak at another local school last year.  His Christian based approach is very simple to understand and implement with any age child or children.  Dr. Knestrict is a professor of early childhood education at Xavier University.  He and his wife and teenage children belong to St. Susanna parish in Mason.  Please mark your calendars for this FREE workshop.  You will NOT regret it!  No reservations required.  Bring a friend or two!
