What is the PTO?  PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization.

What is the PTO’s mission?  The mission of PTO is to foster a spirit of cooperation and communication among all members of our school community and to help develop a closer relationship between home and school.

Why join the PTO?  Being a member of the PTO easily keeps you in touch with your children’s activities during the school year.  Your PTO membership dues enhance the educational facilities and opportunities for the students that are not otherwise provided for in the school budget.  Because of your membership and involvement we are able to keep valuable programs available, such as Everybody Counts, Field Day, Catholic School Week, and Blue Jay Pride Awards, just to name a few.

Who benefits?  Our children!!!  Plus, there are two SCHOLARSHIPS awarded to the 8th grade students, one boy and one girl.  The PTO scholarships are only awarded to children of PTO members.

PTO membership is $10.00 per family.  With your membership you will receive a PTO handbook which includes a school directory with the names, addresses, and phone numbers of all the families at St. John the Baptist School and a handy PTO “Note to School” pad.

Come and join us as we travel through the new school year together!

Bully Proofing Youth Workshop by Jim Bisenius – Thursday September 10, 2009

PTO presented a parenting workshop by Jim Bisenius entitled “Bully Proofing Youth.”  Parents learned what dynamics create bully and victim behaviors.  They were taught how to help their children not to become and/or remain a member of the victimized group.  The focus was on practical things parents can do at home to support their children.  The techniques included specific role-playing and body language training exercises for kids being targeted.  If you were unable to attend this presentation, a copy of the information covered is available in the PTO library.
